Appearing here in print for the first time are the Warfield `QUADS', overlapping triangular figures called “tapestries” which produce a greater effectiveness in describing and understanding quantitative and qualitative factors in the same formula. New interpretations of the terms 'dimension' and 'dimensionality' are given to provide a better description and understanding of complex systems. This paper was presented in Atlanta, 16 October 1986. WARFIELD’S ABSTRACT: A mathematical basis is presented for possible use in evaluating more accurately the various elements which must be considered in group decision-making, where the term, "dimensionality" is given a new meaning describing the limits of inter-relationship between the elements The triangular "quad" figure is introduced as a method of graphic portrayal of hierarchically related elements. Warfield's comments on this paper, written in his l987 manuscript "Integrative Sciences…" DIMENSIONALITY A paper which is complementary to the later 1987 paper with the same title. In this paper, the concepts of "Options Field" and "Quad" are explained in reference to design, and top-down design is formalized as the development of a set of quads which are knit together to form hierarchies of quads."
